About CEED Exam Papers
Aspiring candidates who are looking to get admission for the M.Des programme in the top colleges in India need to take the CEED exam. The CEED or the Common Entrance Examination for Design takes place annually every year in January in the campuses of IIT. The CEED is a tough exam to crack and students appearing for the exam in 2021 may refer to the CEED previous year question paper to know what kind of questions they can expect. Also, practising sample papers of CEED 2019 will help them to increase their knowledge and score higher marks in the final exam. CEED question papers from SILICA are the ones that were used for previous years, and for candidates that are planning to appear for the CEED 2021 examinations, it would be beneficial to check out the CEED question paper 2019 and CEED 2018 question paper with answers. A lot of online websites have a large number of archived CEED question papers with answers free download so that the students can get enough practice and also take a look at how the questions used to be like in the previous years. SILICA's CEED question papers are solved by IIT
The CEED question paper is divided into Part A and Part B. Part A goes on for one hour and Part B goes on for two hours.
Part A - Part A is made of mostly objective-based questions, MCQs, as well as numerical answer questions. The exam is computer-based, so you will know immediately whether you are eligible to sit for Part B. Part A questions will be set to evaluate the candidates visual and spatial skills, their design aptitude, logical and analytical reasoning, social and environmental awareness, objective design sensitivity and their language skill as well. The entire exam will be in the English medium.
Part B - This part deals more with the candidates writing and drawing skills. The questions will be shown on the computer screen, but unlike Part A, they will be answered on the written paper sheet, and not on the computer. At the end of the examination, the sheets will be collected by an invigilator at the venue.
The syllabus for Part A of the CEED exam is as follows,
- Visualization and spatial ability
- Environmental and social awareness
- Analytical and logical reasoning
- Language and creativity
- Design thinking and problem solving
- Observation and design sensitivity
The syllabus for Part B of the CEED exam is as follows,
- Drawing
- Creativity
- Communication skills
- Problem identification skills
Most of the CEED study material books cover all these topics.
While study material is important, going through and practising CEED question paper also benefits the students in a big way, sometimes more than the study material.
We have gathered some of the recent years CEED sample papers/model papers, and see above to get CEED 2019 question paper PDF as well as CEED 2018 question paper PDF. All you need to do is click the given links to download the CEED question papers/sample papers.
While some candidates chose to study on their own for the CEED exam, most students opt for CEED coaching classes. Silica is ranked as one of the top CEED coaching centres in the country, with faculty from the design fraternity, top of the art teaching modules, and weekly mock tests that guarantee our students to get high grades to secure their admission to the top design schools in the country like NIDs, IITs and IISc.

CEED will be conducted in the following 24 cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Visakhapatnam.
Note: IIT Bombay reserves the right to drop any city for conducting the exam due to poor response. Students have to select the top 3 choices. If a city is dropped from the list, then the later choices are offered to the student.
A rank list is prepared based on the combined marks obtained in Part A + B of the CEED exam. Only candidates who score the minimum prescribed marks in each section of both Part-A and Part-B and minimum total marks will be included in the rank list. The minimum prescribed marks varies with the category as shown in the table below:
Merit List | Minimum % of marks in each Section of Part-A and Part-B | Minimum Total Marks |
---|---|---|
Common Rank List (CRL) | 10 | 10 |
OBC-NCL rank list | 9 | 9 |
SC rank list | 5 | 5 |
ST rank list | 5 | 5 |
PwD rank list | 5 | 5 |
SILICA Expert Notes:
- Candidates equal to about 10 times the number of seats available obtain ranks in the CEED exam.
- Obtaining a rank in CEED 2021 does not guarantee admission to the B. Des program. Only top 200 ranks or so obtain admission in IITs.
- However, CEED score is considered for admission by several other Design Institutes for admission.
Part-A of the examination is a computer based test, there is no scope for review, re-grading or re-totalling of the Part-A marks of the examination paper. CEED 2021 Question Paper and Draft Answer Key (Part-A) are now available on CEED website. Candidates can check the draft answer key and compare their answers to know the correct answers. Any discrepancy/comment must be addressed to ceed@iitb.ac.in. Candidates have to mention "Comments on Answer Keys" in the subject of the mail.
The evaluation of Part-B will be done manually by two evaluators independently. If the difference in marks is less than 20%, then a simple average of the marks will be considered. If the difference in marks is greater than 20%, then the paper will be evaluated by a third evaluator. A simple average of the closest of 2 evaluators will be selected as the final marks. There is no scope for re-evaluation of the Part B of CEED exam.
