In 1986, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was established under the Indian Ministry of Textiles. For more than 30 years, NIFT is recognised as the premier educational institution in India for imparting value-adding graduate as well as post-graduate programs in Technology, Fashion design, and Management. The National Institute of Fashion Technology has 16 campuses across the country, and two more centres are likely to come up in Panchkula and Ompora Industrial area in Kashmir soon.

What is the medium of instruction at NIFT?

The only medium of instructions at the National Institute of Fashion Technology campuses is English. The language for CAT, GAT, Situation Test, Group discussion, and Personal interview is also English.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology does offer centralised placement for all disciplines and centres.
Does NIFT provide residential facility?

The National Institute of Fashion Technology offers residential accommodation for girls on most campuses. The NIFT hostels work at a no-profit and no-loss framework and are characterised by facilities such as round-the-clock security, doctor-on-call, indoor and outdoor games, and television.
NIFT campuses that have accommodation for both boys and girls: Jodhpur, Mumbai, Chennai, and Rae Bareilly. There is no residential facility on campus at New Delhi.
NIFT campuses that have accommodation for girls only: Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Patna, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, and Shillong.
Will NIFT be conducting interviews for admissions in 2022?

The National Institute of Fashion Technology will not be conducting any interviews in 2022 of candidates who are applying for admission to the BDes or BFTech programs. However, NIFT will conduct personal interviews for admission to MDes, MFTech and MFM programs in 2022.
What is the reservation of seats available?

In accordance with rules of Government of India, citizens get reservation of seats on the basis of following categories:
- General seats reservation is 50.5%.
- SC seat reservation is 15%.
- OBC-NC seat reservation is 27%.
- ST seat reservation is 7.5%.
