Successful designers may hail from any background. Design is not an activity that is restricted to a certain discipline. Yet, it is worth noting that candidates from a science background have an edge over others. Candidates who come from the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics stream may apply for any of the IIT institutes that offers the Master in Design Course. A candidate from any other background can only apply to IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur or IITDM Jabalpur.

UCEED is a national level entrance exam for design. It is held in 24 cities and the locations have been decided based on the statistics and the proximity to most candidate locations. The city names are listed here for 2022:

When a candidate applies for the UCEED Entrance Exam online, he needs to select 3 cities out of the list. Be prudent with choices made while filling the application as there won’t be any changes later.

Students who qualify in the UCEED Entrance Examination get admission for the Bachelor of Design in IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIT Jabalpur based on their scores.

The eligibility criteria for UCEED Entrance Exams has been stated below:

Age limit: A person belonging to open category or OBC should be maximum 25 years of age while appearing for the UCEED Entrance Examinations. The age limit for a person from SC/ST or a person with disabilities is 30 years.

UCEED Qualification: The candidate should have obtained a rank in UCEED Entrance Examination.

Candidate should have cleared the Class XII or equivalent qualifying examination.

A candidate is able to pursue a Bachelor in Design from reputed colleges once he has cleared the UCEED Entrance Exams. He or she may later consider pursuing a masters in the same field if that is his or her interest.

A candidate who has cleared the CEED entrance tests can appear for the following designing programmes:

• Master of Design in Industrial Design, IIT Delhi
• Master of Design in Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design at IIT Bombay
• Master of Design in Visual Design, IIT Hyderabad
• Master of Design in Design, IIT Kanpur
• Master of Design in Design, IIT Guwahati
• Master of Design in Design, IITDM Jabalpur
• Master of Design in Design, Symbiosis, Pune
• Master of Design in Product Design and Engineering, IISc Bangalore
• Master of Design in Product Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design and Transportation Design, School of Design, UPES, Dehradun

A candidate may also pursue PHD programmes in Design in IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur or IISc Bangalore.
