IIT - Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati , the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and five interdisciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science, and humanities disciplines. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up world class infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art Scientific and Engineering instruments.




Application & Admission Process


The admission process for available programmes is given below :

For B.Des & M.Des :
Step 1 - Appear for UCEED/CEED
Step 2 - Fill and Submit Online Application Form on the college website
Step 3 - Shortlisted Candidates appear for Studio Test & Interview
Step 4 - Selected Candidates Pay the Program Fees

For Ph.D :

  • The admission processes will consists of a seminar /presentation of a topic of the candidate's choice but related to Design.
  • The seminar could also be in the form of a proposal for intended research consisting of problem statement, hypothesis, possible methodology and bibliography.
  • Candidates are also encouraged to present portfolios/projects/work experience that may have a bearing on their research interest.
  • This presentation will be followed by a formal interview/test covering fundamental and advanced topics in Design related issues.

Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-Guwahati)


IIT-Guwahati was established in the year 1994 .


IIT-Guwahati has its sole campus in Guwahati.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Des :

  • Candidates should have a valid score for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) conducted by IITs. You may find more information about UCEED here.
  • Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects.

Eligibility Criteria for M.Des :

  • Minimum CPI of either 5.5 in a 10 point scale or 55% of marks in the qualifying degree/diploma
  • All regular category candidates must possess a valid score of all India Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED)

Ph.D :

  • Candidates having Bachelors or Masters degree or Diploma in a relevant area, with a minimum CPI of either 6.0 in a 10 point scale or 60% of marks.

(Note:CEED score requirement is exempted for students with Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology with minimum CPI of 8.0.)

Scholarship for P.h.D :
(For regular students, who are Indian nationals)

All regular candidates with GATE/CEED score are entitled to scholarship and will have to perform teaching /lab assistant duties in addition to pursuing their research.
