IIT-IDC

IIT’s Industrial Design Centre was Established by the Government of India in 1969 under IIT Bombay. IDC offers an excellent environment for academics, research and applications in the field of design. The aim of the Industrial Design Center is to prepare students to enter into new creative activities as professional industrial designers who with experience and maturity can reach the highest level of design practice, research and development necessary for the industry.




Application & Admission Process


The admission process for Master of Design (M.Des) programme is as given below :

  • Have the requisite undergraduate qualifications
  • Pass the All India Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), conducted in many parts of the country
  • Apply and Qualify through the IDC Admission Test and Interview

UCEED Paper Pattern :

Duration: 3 Hours
The question paper contains 100 questions distributed among the following six broad topics :

  • Visualization and spatial ability,
  • Observation and design sensitivity,
  • Environmental and social awareness,
  • Analytical and logical reasoning,
  • Language and creativity
  • Design thinking and problem -solving.

The question paper consists of three sections :

  • Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
  • Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
  • *There is also negative marking for wrong answers for NAT and MCQ

IIT-IDC was established in the year 1969 .


IIT-IDC has Academic Collaboration with IIT-Bombay.


IIT-IDC has its sole campus in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

For UG : UCEED qualified candidates who have completed their XII Board Examination (or equivalent) in any stream.

For PG : Min 55% marks in qualifying degree and Qualification in CEED for Design.(10 +2 +4)

Student Hostels at IDC :

  • IIT has two girls and ten boys' hostels within its campus. Each hostel is an independent entity with its own mess facilities, recreational areas, etc.
  • Students can also choose to make their own arrangement for accommodation outside the campus

Guest Houses at IDC :

  • IIT Bombay provides accommodation for guests (invited or visiting faculty, alumni, participants in workshop/ seminars organized by IDC) in either the Institute Guest House, CEP Guest House or the Staff Hostel
