For admission to B.Des programs at NIFT, candidates shortlisted from the written entrance examination are required to take a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. In 2020, the Situation Test is expected to be for 2 hours.

The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill, finesse of the model and overall presentation etc. These parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept behind the model constructed. The language of the write up has to be English.

The use of outside/additional material in making the model/design is not permitted. There is no interview for admission to B.Des program at NIFT.

A variety of questions can be asked in Situation Test. The student will be asked to make mementos, models of accessories, models for social causes, abstract installations, etc. On our website, you can find the latest Situation test realted NIFT sample paper and NIFT question paper for 2020 and that of before.

There is no fixed passing score for NIFT entrance exam. There is a cut off for marks over which candidates are shortlisted. Candidates are shortlisted for Situation Test or GDPI based on CAT / GAT score cut off. The cut off for marks for Written Exam are not published by NIFT. Every year, candidates equal to approximately 3 times the number of seats are selected for Situation Test or GDPI. In 2020, approximately 6,000 students will be selected for Situation Test out of the 20,000 students who will appear for CAT & GAT paper.

Each student receives who appears for the Situation Test receives a final merit score and rank (common rank & category rank) based on all tests. The admissions at NIFT are conducted through counselling at different NIFT campuses in order of ranks. The cut off for ranks which got admission in different NIFT Campuses for different Programs in given in Note 2 below.

The result of the NIFT 2020 for CAT & GAT paper (Written Exam) is expected to be declared by 15 March 2020. These are the important dates in the 2020 admission process of NIFT:
