National Institute of Technology, Rourkela is one of the premier national level institutions for technical education in the country and is funded by the Government of India. The Government has elevated the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela to a deemed university under the name of ‘National Institute of Technology, Rourkela’. It is a residential campus offering accommodation to faculty, staff and students. The campus has all the amenities for developing personal, social and academic skills of the student community. Their mission is to advance and spread knowledge in the area of science and technology, leading to creation of wealth and welfare of humanity.

Students of NIT Rourkela enjoy a number of facilities such as :

Central Library : Biju Patnaik Central Library (BPCL) of NIT Rourkela, is functioning since 1965. It acts as main learning resource centre of the institute which constitutes robust collections in both print and electronic resources.
Halls of Residence : Every hall of residence boasts of a Badminton court and a Volleyball court for its boarders. It also provides facilities for Table Tennis, Carom, and Chess. Some of the hostels are also equipped with a modern gym with the latest equipments.
Sports and fitness : The Institute provides its students with world-class sports facilities which include a Football –Hockey stadium. It also houses a gymnasium with all the modern facilities.
Swimming Pool : NIT also offers separate swimming facilities for men and women students. Separate swimming coaches for men and women are available at particular times at the pools, which are open from 6 a.m. to 8.30 p.m every day.
Medical Facilities : The Institute dispensary is located behind the KHM Hall of residence and in front of the school. Attached to it is the Apollo medical store that runs 24 x 7, catering to the medical needs of the campus.
Apart from these the institute also boasts of a post office, a bank, and two guest houses within its campus.

“Infrastructure : The infrastructure of our college is awesome. We have a circular lecture avenue where we get our lectures. The campus is very beautiful. The mess food is not bad. Non-vegetarian food is available for 6 days, but the vegetarians face some problems. There are many canteens and restaurants on the campus where you can get delicious food at a very reasonable price. The hostel rooms are fine.
